I am the kind of person who can't seem to keep alive a basic house plant. However, I have found a few that can stand even my level of brown thumb, clean the air and make the room look bright and happy. I keep my favorites in my office because, apparently, they make you smarter.

1) African Violets

I managed to keep an african violet plant alive for over a year until I left it outside during a freeze. They are very hearty and have beautiful bloom.

2) Peace Lily

One of the top three best plants for air purification according to NASA. No joke. I have mine hanging in the office because they prefer shade. I know to water because it wilts and then immediately perks up again after I water. Hey, immediate feedback is helpful.

3) ZZ Plant

Aren't they cute? This plant is so hearty people often think they are fake. They do the best when you pretty much neglect them. Which is perfect.

4) Spider plants

No worries, they don't breed spiders or anything. Another great purifier, these love sunlight. So try to keep them in a window.

5) Snake Plant (Mother-in-Law tongue)

I think these just look cool, and they are VERY hard to kill. Just give them a little sun and water every now and then and you can look like you are practically a professional gardener.
